President Obama has increased the maximum Pell Grant award by $1,000 and tied it to inflation; he reformed the student loan program saving $60 billion; he expanded income driven repayment so that if your income is low your loan payments adjust; he expanded college tax credits, including making them available to low-income households for the first time; and he simplified the FAFSA, whose complexity had too often deterred low income people from going to college.
Building on that, the President would like to see the first two years of college become free for all responsible students.
